I’ve been hearing rave reviews about The Public House at The Alexander. They have a few locations (including the original Public House and PH Burger Bunker @ Red Leg Brewing), but so far, I’ve only visited this one. If I make it to the others, I’ll add separate reviews.

This particular location, The Alexander, has some history behind it. According to their website:

Originally built in 1928, the Alexander building was once home to the Alexander Film Company, then the largest producer of film advertising in the country. They produced over two thousand films annually on their 260-acre lot here in Colorado Springs. The Alexander Aircraft Company was also created to transport crew and equipment across the U.S. With over 600 employees and an average payroll of nearly $2.5 million, it was a major piece of Colorado Springs history.

Pretty cool to see a spot with real history, especially when so many restaurants these days are tucked into strip malls.

Now for the wings: we went with Nashville Hot and Lemon Pepper, ordered XTRA Crispy as always. No sauce on the side this time (off my game there). Both flavors were solid—properly coated, good balance of flavor, nothing weak about them. Unfortunately, they didn’t come out extra crispy. That said, they weren’t soggy either—just cooked to a normal level, which was fine.

Pricing is on the higher side at $1.75 per wing.

The meat was tender, pulled cleanly from the bone, and wasn’t fatty—solid quality. Veggies were fresh, crisp, and free of bruises. The dressings seemed either homemade or at least upgraded from the jar; not mind-blowing, but good.

X-Factor? Not really. These are good wings in a comfortable pub setting, but nothing about them truly stands out compared to other spots serving solid wings.

Bottom line: If you’re at The Public House, don’t hesitate to order the wings—they’re good and won’t disappoint. But they’re not a “destination wing” either.
